How to repair Vertical Blinds in your home

Whatever the reason for needing repairs, simply follow the easy steps below and you will be able to repair your verticals in no time at all!

What you will need

  1. A clean bench or working area (ie. table) large enough to take the Blind Track you will be working on
  2. A screwdriver
  3. A pair of pliers
  4. The replacement parts for repairing your vertical blinds
  5. A copy of these instructions

Repairing your Vertical Blinds Tracking System

Dismantle Track

To dismantle the track, remove the circlip or star washer at the Return End then remove Return End

All componentry can now be removed from the extrusion by pulling the Drive Unit

Remove Pull Cords

Both ends of the pull cords finish in the cord runner

Remove the block and screw in the cord runner then pull both the cords through stopping at the drive unit

Removing and Replacing Carriers

Step 1.

Separating Carriers from Plastic Spacers

Using a small flat screw driver, push the top of the Spacer outwards through the window in the bottom of the Carrier

Turn the Carrier on its' side and twist the Spacer to separate from the Carrier

Separating Carriers from Metal Spacers

Underneath the Carrier are two slots holding the Spacers together

Slide a cut-off Metal Spacer through the front of the slot and pull to separate

Cord Runners

To replace the Cord Runner, the Carriers must be removed from the tracking system

A screwdriver can be used to unclip the Cord Runner from the leading Carrier

Replace the Drive Units / Return Ends

To replace the Drive Unit, the Cords need to be removed. Then unscrew the Drive Unit from the Tilt Rod

Replace the Operating Cord

Unclip the Cord Joiner to separate the Operating Chain then pull it through the Drive Unit. The first ball of the new chain is to be placed into the cog and with a small straight screwdriver, push the cog around. This picks the chain up and wraps it around the cog in the Drive Unit.

Once through, join the two ends together with a Cord Joiner. Operate the chain to ensure the Joiner does not get caught up in the Drive Unit.

If this happens, rotate the Chain so the Joiner is away from the Drive Unit. You may hear a ratchet sound when doing this - this sound is normal

Replacing Rod Supports - Magnetic and Non-Magnetic

To replace the rod support, remove the return end cap using a straight screwdriver. Push the pulley out from the saddle in the return end.
